It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Benjamin Holman Bright, affectionately known to all as Ben. Born on October 11, 1958, in Mount Pleasant, Texas, Ben’s life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and music.
He departed from this world and entered the gates of heaven on May 10, 2025, in Smithville, Texas, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him.
Ben dedicated most of his adult life to a successful career as a Petroleum Landman and Title Analyst. His work took him on travels across the country, allowing him to connect with many diverse places and personalities, each journey enriching his experiences and providing stories to share. His sharp analytical skills and work ethic were truly commendable, but it was his great sense of humor—known to light up any room—that made him unforgettable. Friends, relatives and colleagues alike remember Ben for his ability to crack hilarious jokes, bringing joy and warmth into their lives.
Ben graduated from Three Rivers Texas High School and went on to attend Texas State University, where he studied Commercial Art. His passion for creativity extended beyond academics. He loved to draw caricatures of the people that were close to him. Early on in his life, Ben taught himself how to play electric guitar by ear on his older brother's guitar while his brother was away in the military. He went on to develop a profound love for music that resonated deeply within him. Over the years, he enjoyed playing in several contemporary church bands although in contrast, he was also a fan of The Eagles, Joe Walsh, Vince Gill, ZZ-Top, Def Leppard, Van Halen, Steve Miller Band, Journey, and last but not least good ol’ Texas boy George Strait. Ben would play along with the albums and found solace and joy in their melodies. In his golden years, he embraced playing the guitar as a cherished hobby, collecting and building various project guitars that adorned his man cave, a testament to his unwavering love for music.
Ben is survived by his beloved family, including his loving wife, business partner and best friend of 40 years, Connie Wardle Bright; and his three wonderful children, Cassandra Karen Horton, Dustin Tyler Bright, and Barrett Evan Bright; his sister, Nelda Danice Bright; his wife's brother and sister-in-law, JP and Tammy Wardle; his wife's sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and Tully Welch; his mother-in-law Carolyn Foster Wardle; several nieces, Cassie Lynn Sauceda, Micah Meyers and Morgan Welch; nephews, Vance Rietz and Colton Wardle; and many cousins. Each of them holds a piece of his heart and together they carry forward his spirit.
He was preceded in death by his mother Nelda Jacqueline Cartwright Bright; father, Joe Dan Bright; and brother Jack Douglas Bright. Their memories remained etched in Ben’s heart, guiding and inspiring him throughout his life.
A memorial service celebrating Ben’s life will take place on May 31, 2025, at 2:00pm in Bastrop, Texas, at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home, with a reception following (to be announced). As family and friends gather to honor his memory, they will undoubtedly share laughter, stories, and the unforgettable moments that filled Ben’s life with joy. Though he may no longer walk among us, the legacy of Benjamin's life will continue to resonate in the hearts of many. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered with fondness and admiration.
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:1-2)
Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:39)
