Betty Gale Hastings was born on November 3 1946 in Ralls,TX to Charlene and Virgil Johnson. She went to her heavenly home Monday December 8, 2025 at the age of 79. After the death of her father, she was adopted by her stepfather, Ed Ballinger at age 3.
Betty grew up and went to school in Hale Center, Texas. She married Paul Hastings on January 19, 1963. They were blessed with four children, Paul, Lisa, Sheila and Ray.
Betty worked as a waitress and later as a nurses aid in labor and delivery at the Plainview hospital for several years.
Betty and Paul moved to Canadian in 1982 and she began working at the Canadian Pharmacy. She enjoyed her work there and the people she worked with and met. Betty also worked as the Director of Rachel's Little House for 3 years.
After retiring she went to work at Lowe's Pay N Save. She was well known there for her smile and sense of humor.
She moved to Elgin, Texas to live with her son Paul in 2012. They attended Timberline Fellowship where she had many good friends. Betty moved into the Ridgewood Apartments and made so many wonderful friends. Nita & Mary were her besties. We called them the Golden Girls. They frequently went to Dairy Queen or Chic Fil A and rode around eating and laughing. We thank God for those ladies and the happiness they brought her.
She broke her shoulder in a fall in 2024 and moved in with Sheila. She rode with Sheila daily and helped with staging and keeping Sheila safe while she worked.
Paul's passing was hard on her as she had known him since she was 15 years old.
Betty's grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life. She was great at making others feel special and loved.
Betty passed her great work ethic, her love for the lord and her love for family and friends on to her children and grandchildren. She will be missed by many.
Betty was preceded in Death by her parents and her sister, Peggy Lankford and husband, Charles. Betty's great legacy is carried on by her four children, 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Gracie and brother-in-law, Paul.
