Austin

LC Martin Jr. was born on May 9, 1960, in Smithville, Texas, to LC Martin Sr. and Lucille Jones-Martin. He was one of eight children, seven sons and one daughter, born to this union. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Sam Jones and Larry Jones. He is survived by his brothers Henry Jones of Bastrop, Deneal Martin (Ute) of Germany, William Martin (Marilyn) of Austin, and Clifton Martin (Crystal) of Bastrop, along with his beloved sister Mary Sharp (Darrell) of Houston.

LC was educated in the Bastrop Independent School District and graduated with honors. A well-rounded and gifted student, he excelled both academically and athletically. He was an exceptional athlete in track, football, and basketball. In 1977, LC received an honorable mention in Dave Campbell’s Texas Football All-American rankings. His high school athletic career was nothing short of extraordinary, marked by his exceptional talent, and standout performances across multiple sports. His commitment to education and faith led him to pursue higher learning at Southwestern Christian College.

Beyond his devotion to family, LC was known for being an exceptional cook who loved preparing meals that brought people together. Whether it was a simple family dinner or a special gathering with friends, his food was always made with love. He was also a proud and steadfast Dallas Cowboys fan—win or lose, he stood by his team with passion and loyalty.

In 2015, LC married the love of his life, Sue Etta Spears. Together, they spent ten beautiful years building a life of unity, love, and purpose. Their marriage blended their families into one loving and supportive unit.

A devout Christian, LC was a man of deep faith, integrity, and compassion. He was a devoted husband and a loving father. He leaves to cherish his memory two children: Richard Ihegborow and LaKendra Martin, and three stepchildren: Dexter Bray, Anthony Gardner, and Jasmin Gardner.

LC was affectionately known as “Buddy” and Grandpa by his ten grandchildren, who brought much joy to his life: Jordan Ihegborow, Ka’Meria Ihegborow, Elijah Ihegborow, Dexter Bray Jr., Marlei Bray, Dillion Bray, Dru Bray, Brandon Evans, Ah’Layah Gardner, and Amari Sulee Bolen.

LC, also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing his gentle spirit, steadfast faith, and kind heart.
